About EURECA-PRO

The European University on Responsible Consumption and Production (EURECA-PRO) is an alliance of 9 European Universities, committed to promoting research, training, innovation and entrepreneurship focusing on Responsible Consumption and Production, which is also one of the United Nations’ most strategic Sustainable Development Goals (SDG12) for our transition to a more ecological model of circular economy.

EURECA‑PRO is open to the entire university community:

- Students can spend a semester or pursue a full degree at a partner university, while immersing themselves in a multicultural environment and practising a foreign language.

- Academic staff and researchers can take part in conferences and meetings with international colleagues, help shape the alliance’s educational and research offer, and benefit from mobility opportunities—a potential first step toward international engagement.

- Administrative and technical staff can also benefit from mobility opportunities and the exchange of good practices within a European framework.

TUC: A Key Member Of The Alliance

The Technical University of Crete (TUC), as a small, young, dynamic University and amongst the most prominent research institutions in Greece,  has been a key member of the EURECA-PRO scientific network actively contributing to the design and delivery of innovative interdisciplinary research activities and curricula, offering mobility opportunities to students and faculty across partner universities as well as hosting milestone events for the growth and sustainability of the alliance, supporting its true European nature and fostering borderless, multinational exchanges.

TUC's goal is to continue to effectively expand its ongoing pursuit of excellence in education and research through this unique network of exchanges and to contribute important assets of knowledge and innovation both to local communities and on a global scale.

A Committed European University of the Future

European Universities are intended to represent a new form of cooperation between higher education institutions in Europe with the long-term goal of strengthening the excellence of the European Higher Education Area.

EURECA-PRO has a two-fold societal and planetary mission. Through its novel approach, on the one hand, it holistically contributes to the highly topical issue of Sustainable Consumption and Production under the umbrella of Sustainable Development Goal 12, and on the other hand it effectively contributes to the development of the European Higher Education Area complimentarily to Sustainable Development Goal 4.

The EURECA-PRO Alliance promotes an interdisciplinary and transnational approach to developing environmentally low‑impact solutions, while rethinking economic and societal models through:

- international study programmes (double or triple degrees)

- collaborative research initiatives related to ecological and industrial transitions

- integrated mobility opportunities for students, doctoral candidates, teaching staff and administrative personnel

EURECA-PRO's long-term vision is to be the European educational core and leader in interdisciplinary research and innovation in sustainable consumption and production of resources, goods and materials by 2040. This will include technological, ecological, political, economic and societal aspects and their transfer into society and industry to achieve the targeted CO₂ reduction and associated sustainability practices of the EU Green Deal by 2050.

EURECA-PRO's Flagships

Flagships are the dynamic, cross- and multidisciplinary academic communities at the heart of EURECA-PRO. Bringing together researchers, PhD students, academics, and external stakeholders from across the Alliance, they create an environment for sustained collaboration and innovation across Research, Education, Innovation, and engagement with society (Third Mission).

As strategic communities within EURECA-PRO, Flagships help shape the development of our European University and serve as catalysts for long-term, sustainable change. They do so by:

  • Defining and advancing a long-term scientific vision aligned with one or more of EURECA-PRO’s five Strategic Challenges, fostering excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and joint research.
  • Building synergies across Research, Innovation, and Third Mission, connecting academic expertise with societal needs and creating opportunities for meaningful engagement with external stakeholders.
  • Strengthening the integration of Education and Training by connecting Flagship priorities with educational activities across all study levels. This includes contributions to the EURECA-PRO Introductory Lecture, the alignment of PhD seminars with Flagship themes, the development of joint Master’s programmes, contributions to the EURECA-PRO International Conference, and dedicated training opportunities for Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students.
  • Expanding opportunities for collaborative research funding by identifying and pursuing relevant European, national, and regional funding opportunities and strengthening EURECA-PRO’s capacity to develop competitive joint proposals.
  • Fostering a shared European research and innovation culture by bringing together expertise, disciplines, institutions, and stakeholders across the Alliance and creating lasting structures for collaboration.

Through these activities, Flagships provide a framework for connecting expertise across EURECA-PRO, turning shared priorities into collaborative action, and contributing to the Alliance’s long-term ambition of driving sustainable transformation through education, research, innovation, and societal engagement.
